You or your child can pay attention to
tasks at hand with relative ease, whether those tasks are
engaging or boring. You maintain enough (and not too
much) energy over the work day. You find it easy to make new
acquaintances and friends. Your child arrives where he needs to
arrive on time and has what he needs with him when he arrives
there!
Then you don’t really need the Davis® Attention Mastery
program. But, if you are like about 15-20% of the population who
has significant difficulties with time, attention
and focus, social interactions, and energy
levels, then this program is very definitely designed with
you in mind.
There is a simple truth:
“If you eliminate the reason a problem exists, the problem will
cease to exist.” Ronald D. Davis, The Gift of Learning.
The symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention
Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity (ADHD) are extremely varied.
They cause all sorts of behaviors which parents, teachers,
partners, colleagues and friends often find difficult, to say
the least: restlessness, poor impulse control, short attention
span, failure to finish tasks once started, being always on the
go, distractibility.
Yet these individuals have unique gifts! They are go-getters,
infinitely curious about the world. They are sensitive to their
surroundings. They are highly imaginative and do their thinking
in vivid imagery. They have much of what it takes to become
pioneers, entrepreneurs, leaders.
How the ADDer/ADHDer thinks
In pictures and films. In stills, in slow motion and
fast-forward, fully 3-D. And this can be extremely
realistically or with extremely realistic creativity! For some
it is just about the same.
When this inner imaginative process is turned on, the
person is often no longer aware of her outer world. If
the environment she is in (e.g. study hall or routine tasks at
work) does NOT attract and engage her attention
sufficiently, she will use this gift of her active thought
and imagination frequently throughout the day. And it will
become a spontaneous (unconscious) behavior when she becomes
bored. They will not be aware of this occurring.
On the other hand, if these individuals ARE interested in
something in their environment, then they use exactly that same
gift – to the point of being able to hyper-focus for hours on
what they are doing. They become Super-Concentrators! This is
the paradox of ADD.
The basic Davis tools for self management as taught in the Davis
Dyslexia Correction® program are important here, too. With
these you, the client, can learn to recognize the signs when you
are not clearly present to the moment. And then, it’s your
choice: refocus on what you are doing, or … chose not to.
But we need to address something else … all those missing
lessons
Remember the title to the book All I Really Need To Know
I Learned in Kindergarten, by Robert Fulghum. Well, it’s
not true. When the ADDer is not focused to the present moment or
task at hand, then he is missing a whole lot of important
things. We need to check that some very basic principles of
life are solidly in place.
If your child is spending a lot of time in this inner world,
he won’t learn some basic life lessons (the ones we all
think that everyone learns just by growing up). For
example, if his time sense is changing all the time, will he
learn about being on time? About estimating time? Will he learn
the Concept of Time? Clearly not. If he is the sole Director of
the Movies of his Mind and he edits them as he likes (and spends
huge chunks of the day doing just that – being disoriented), then
will he thoroughly learn the Concept of Consequence? No again.
So, we need to be very sure that the Basic Concepts upon which
we build our understanding of all things are built on solid
ground. The Davis Concept Mastery ™ procedures ensure that
misunderstandings are clarified and eliminated. And then
learning enfolds easily for the ADDer.
PROGRAM CONTENTS
The Basic Tools
-
the content of the Davis Dyslexia Correction® program
-
these teach the mental tools to clear perceptual
distortions in the first place and to be increasingly present throughout the day
Concept Mastery
-
the most basic cognitive models (Basic Concepts are
examined for misunderstandings, and clarified and mastered)
-
these include: Self, Change, Consequence, Cause, Effect,
Before, After, Time, Sequence, Order, Disorder, and more.
Personalizing
-
these are then applied to whatever difficulties you have
stated as your goal(s)
The Benefits of the Program
Sometimes what I see with my clients who take the Davis®
Attention Mastery program borders on a miracle. Within months
their difficulties seem completely resolved. Sometimes the
benefits are more subtle, take much longer to become habits, and
require fine-tuning. Yet each and every client I have worked
with in the Attention Mastery program has benefited in the ways
listed below.
Benefits:
- resolve the perceptual distortions causing difficulties with time, balance, motion, hearing, seeing
- recognize when you are disorienting, and if desired, refocus on the task at hand
- manage your own internal time sense, and make it more consistent and accurate
- have improved self-awareness and self-management in social interactions
- decide upon the appropirate energy level for any talk at hand and shift into it with ease
In other words, you will acquire a
valuable set of tools for self-awareness and self-management.
This is truly the basis of becoming a life-long learner.
Depending upon the specific difficulties that you are having, we
will define further specific goals for the program during
the initial consultation.
Length
5 -10 days intensive program, 6 hours of instruction per day,
best in 2 blocks.
If you have already completed the Davis Dyslexia Correction®
program, then we will discuss the further length the program at
the initial consultation.
Included in the cost of the program:
|
• |
A kit containing all
necessary take-home material for the follow-up
program at home |

the follow-up program |
|

Be aware:
Medications that are prescribed to modulate attention and/or
impulsivity and hyperactivity are counterproductive in the Davis
program.

If you are taking prescription medication for ADD/ADHD and wish
to attend a Davis program, you are required to consult with your
physician before discontinuing the use of any such medication.
