Learning Difficulties | The Davis® Model | The Davis® Programs | Program Details
Is it really necessary to do the program so intensively?  Wouldn’t it be better to spread the program over 6 or 12 months?
Doesn’t the dyslexic find that intensity draining given that she already has difficulty concentrating for long-periods?  No. In order to really make sure that our mental tools are engrained and are becoming almost a matter of habit for the client it is absolutely necessary that we practice and use them frequently throughout the day. This is important in order to establish and reinforce new neural networks.
But, don’t worry. We learn procedures to recover quickly from mental drain.  And we take plenty of active “working” breaks, as well as just plain time-out breaks.
I often work over weekends so that you don’t need to miss out so many days of work or school.

How old can you be for the program to still work effectively?
Well, my oldest client was 78 years old. But surely that is not the upper limit. All you need is the motivation to change and the discipline to do it. And boy oh boy, did this wonderful lady have those in spades!
Many 7 year olds are capable of taking the program. However, because of the intensity of this program it is most profitable to wait for a while.  So, I like to take children from the age of 9 or 10 onwards.

Can I do the correction program for 2 languages if I am fluent in both?
I have done many programs with bilingual and trilingual dyslexics. There really is no rule on this.  My experience is that it is best to do the correction program in your dominant language. If we have time, we can work on the basic symbols in the other language, too. And particularly if you “switched” languages early in school, it will be important to look at the symbols of the alphabet and punctuation in each language carefully. Our goal is always to determine whether a symbol is capable of triggering disorientation. The letter “v” may cause no difficulties at all in English, but trigger you into confusion in your other language, e.g. Spanish.

What do I have to do after the 5 day program?
Quite a bit, but not too much.  You will need to master (=make clay models) of more of the abstract trigger words. I suggest that at the beginning you practice your mental tools daily. All in all this would take about 1 ½ hrs to 2 hrs per week.
It is best to think of the Davis Program as a 1 year program – with a 1 week’s jump start!  I will help you along if you run into any difficulties during the year.

Can teachers learn the procedures and use them in the classroom?
Yes. As a matter of fact there is an entire website devoted to the application of the Davis method in the classroom. Our method Davis Learning Strategies
® has made its way all around the world and is being taught in hundreds of schools on several continents.

We believe that if the modified Davis procedures are implemented already in the earliest grades at school that we can actually prevent the symptoms of dyslexia from occurring.  Thus, the thrust of our school program is preventative, rather than the remedial or corrective nature of the Davis Dyslexia Correction
® Program.
