The Initial Consultation
Should you be interested in one of my programs, contact me for
an appointment. This consultation takes place here at
my office in the heart of the
Historic District in Savannah
We will get to know each other and I will
speak to you or your child about your past and current
difficulties. By the end of the consultation you can expect to
understand your own unique blend of strengths and why these
strengths have caused you difficulties up till now. Of course,
and what you can do about them!
The goal of this initial consultation is to see if a Davis
Program will really help you and address your own or your
child’s learning difficulties. We will talk about your
expectations and appropriate goals for the program. And it is
just as important to find out whether you and/or your child feel
comfortable with me. After all, we will be working together for
30 hours and more.
If you have been tested or diagnosed for a learning disability,
please FAX these or email these to me at least 48 hours prior to
our appointment.
And if you are from out of town, take the rest of the day to
lavish up the culture and history of this marvelous city.
My office is in the heart of the
Historic District.
If you live abroad and are planning a visit to the US
(I conduct programs in French and German, as well as English) or
if you simply live too far away from Savannah to make the
journey, we can arrange a telephone consultation. Call me for
details on how this would work.
Length: 1 ½ hrs
Mini Home Assessment
But before you call, please ask yourself this question: Are
you and Davis a good match?
• Take the
Online Assessment and print out a copy of the results.
• Refer to the
37
Characteristics of Dyslexia
Discuss these with your partner or child! Talk about
your child’s strengths more than his or her weaknesses . Do you
see how the results relate to concrete examples in daily life?
Enjoy this time together with each other, make it light and
easy. Use it to discover things you didn’t know about each
other.
Ask yourself if you or your child is motivated enough (yet).
It takes money, time, and personal effort to make the Davis
program a lasting success. If you, the adult dyslexic, or your
child with dyslexia is not yet ready to make the commitment,
then great strides may well made during and immediately after
the program. But, as time goes on, these will be lost. So ask
yourself or your child these three questions:
Are you aware you have a problem? O
yes O not really O no
Do you want a solution
to that problem? O yes O
not really O no
Do you want me to help you find a solution? O
yes O not really O No
This last question is for after you meet me or another
facilitator of your choice.
If you feel any hesitation at all in answering each and
every one of these questions with a firm “Yes” then find out
why. Where might the resistance lie? Do you need more
information? Do you need to speak to another facilitator? Do you
need to speak to others in the field?
Call me if you need more information from me, or if you want an
appointment for a consultation. My
office is in the Heart of the Historic District in Savannah
I’ll be glad to answer any further questions you might have.
Services
Events on Congress Street
These are evening public presentations about various topics
of interest. About 5 a year are devoted to the dyslexia. Some
are devoted to other topics more related to my Performance
Coaching programs.
These are an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in
learning more about learning disabilities and learning gifts!
The presentation is informal. There will be plenty of time for
discussion. And, of course, there will be refreshments.
Parent and Partner Training
Parents and partners play an essential role in the success
the program. I feel that the more the parents (or partner of the
adult dyslexic) know about the Davis program, the better. We
gladly invite you to take the opportunity to participate in
various segments of the program. The last afternoon of the
program is devoted almost entirely to parent and partner
training.
(Be aware: if your child does not wish to have you present
during the sessions, he or she is the boss! It would only hinder
our program. I ask for your understanding here.)
Partner/Parent Get-togethers
I invite parents of my clients and my adult dyslexic clients
to come to periodic get-togethers after they have taken a
program.
During these we share successes, we discuss difficulties you are
having and we offer valuable suggestions that others have found
has worked. We always do some practical exercises related to
your questions. These evenings are very popular.
